Bobbie Evans inducted into
As Bobbie Evans of Clinton tells it, they flew combat missions in the back seats and from gunner platforms of warrior aircraft, placing their fate in the hands of skilled pilots. They were Navy Marine and Coast Guard Airmen who were inducted into the Enlisted Combat Aircrew Roll of Honor at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum on South Carolina’s historic Charleston harbor. Forty-one airmen saw their names added to this prestigious Roll of Honor on board the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown on Friday November 5, 2004 at 10 a.m. They joined over 800 veterans from World War II to the Vietnam War who have already had their names listed on the Roll of Honor. All of them have been honored for their distinguished combat heroics. In addition to the forty-one inductees, nearly 300 family members were in attendance in South Carolina at Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum. Bobbie Evans was aboard an AD-4 Skyraider during the Korean War and his pilot was Patrick Sullivan of Spring Valley, CA. Evans received his official letter of congratulations from David P. Burnette, CEO of the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum. The letter talked about Evans’ courageous manner and actions that have earned him the respect and esteem of his fellow servicemen, superiors, family and friends. The letter went on to read that “although numerous years have passed since your service for your country, it is not too late to honor your exceptional contributions to your nation. We extend tremendous pride toward you as you as we pay tribute to you,” stated Burnette. Membership in the Enlisted Combat Aircrew Roll of Honor is a mark of distinction for those veterans, living and deceased, who made an exceptional contribution to their country. In this manner the museum ships and airplanes on public display ensure that this history of our nation’s defense through the dedication and sacrifices of America’s armed forces is not lost. Congratulations Bobbie Evans!
