Fiddler's Green
Ted Boyce

'Tis The Place For All Good Sailors
Who Served Their Country Well,
Who Answered Their Last Muster,
Heard The Toll Of Their Last Bell.
Their Nationality Doesn't Matter,
Nor The Color Of Their Skin,
All Sailors With Good Log Books
Are Welcome Here Within.

"Fiddler's Green" Is In The Oceans' Depths
"King Neptune" Reigns Supreme.
The "Old Man Of The Sea" Holds Court,
A Place Of Great Esteem.
"Jimmy Legs" Keeps Law And Order,
The Locker's In Davey Jones Keep.
No Storm Affects This Peaceful Place
Beneath The Oceans Deep

There's Grog For Every Sailor
And His Cup Is Never Dry.
A Pretty Girl For Every Swab
And You Never Say Goodbye.
The Bunks Are Soft And Made Each Morn'
The Linens Always Clean.
There Is No Pain Or Suffering
Here In "Fiddler's Green".

Your Shipmates Will Be Down Here
Greeting You When You Arrive.
You'll Reminisce 'Bout Sailor Days
When You Were All Alive.
Remember That Great Sea Battle
We Made The Enemy Run,
And The Time My Plane Went Down,
Hit By Bullets From Their Gun.

Down Here We Don't Stand Watches,
No Duty Will There Be,
The Smoking Lamp Is Always Lit
And Everything Is Free.
The Chow Hall Is Always Open
And The Heads Will Never Close.
A Sailors Debt Is Now Forgiven
Regardless What He Owes.

"Ben The Bosun" Greets All New Men
And Escorts Them Around.
He Was Bosun On The "Merry Dunn"
'Fore That Great Ship Went Down.
"Mother Carey" Is The Keeper
Of All Birds On The Sea.
She Keeps The Mermaids In Their Place,
Away From You And Me.

There's A Special Place For Engineers
Up Near The Great North Pole.
This Stokehold's Full Of Noisy Machines
And It's Called The "Glory Hole".
It's A Dirty, Noisy Place To Be
Steam, Sweat And Oil Makes It Smell,
It's Hotter In That "Glory Hole"
Than All The Fires In Hell.

A Skipper Who Mistreats His Crew
Or Puts His Ship At Risk,
Or Endangers Another Vessel
Even Tho The Winds Be Brisk,
He'll Be Locked Out Of "Fiddler's Green",
To Wander 'Round Till Put Upon,
'Cause The Crabs Will Surely Eat Him
'For Another Day Will Dawn.

A Sailor Who May Mutiny,
Desert Or Shirk His Duty,
Fail To Keep His Clothing Clean,
Or Steals Another's Booty,
His Log Book Will Reflect This
When He Goes Before "The Board"
He'll Be Locked Out For The Crabs To Eat
That'll Be His Just Reward.

All Good Sailors Here Are Welcome
When "King Neptune" Makes His Call.
Come Join Us In These Green Depths
Where All Men Stand Proud And Tall.
Men Down Here Help One Another,
Shirkers Here Are Never Seen.
Just Those Who Have Good Log Books
Ever Enter "Fiddler's Green".
